Einleitung/Introduction
Im Londoner East End, entlang der Brick Lane und in deren Seitenstraßen, sind unglaublich viele bunte und ausgefallene Kunstwerke in Hinterhöfen, Tunneln, Hauseingängen, und an Fassade zu finden. Faszinierende Hotspots sind auch Camden im Norden von London, das hippe Viertel Shoreditch und der Leake Street Tunnel (Banksy Tunnel).
Besonders plakativ und oftmals farbberauschend sind die großen und kleinen Graffitis, die Künstler mit Leidenschaft legal und illegal sprayen. Das Verweilen und genaue Ansehen der „Kunst aus der Dose“ zeigt vielfach faszinierende Details, regt zum Nachdenken an und offenbart nicht selten subtile politische Botschaften.
Nebenbei macht die Suche nach der Kunst auf Beton, Wänden und Schildern ausgesprochen Spaß und bringt oft ungewöhnliche Stadtansichten abseits des Mainstreams zum Vorschein.
Neben der Lichtgestalt Banksy gibt es viele mehr oder weniger bekannte Street Art-Künstler, deren Werke ebenfalls Respekt und Anerkennung verdienen. Einige von Ihnen haben bereits den Sprung von der anarchistischen, urbanen Subkultur in Welt der Galerien und Auftragsarbeiten gewagt. London ist nach wie vor das Epi-Zentrum der Street Art.
Die Ausstellung „Street Art in London“ soll einen kleinen Einblick ins Epi-Zentrum London geben und bestenfalls auch Inspiration für „Kunst im öffentlichen Raum“ von Wetzlar geben.
In London’s East End, along Brick Lane and in its side streets, an incredible number of colorful and unusual works of art can be found in backyards, tunnels, house entrances, and on façades. Other fascinating hotspots include Camden in north London, the hip Shoreditch district and the Leake Street Tunnel.
Particularly striking and often intoxicating are the large and small graffiti that artists spray with passion, both legally and illegally. The lingering and close look at the „art from the can“ often reveals fascinating details, makes you think and often reveals subtle political messages. Incidentally, the search for art on concrete, walls and signs is extremely fun and often brings unusual cityscapes away from the mainstream to light.
In addition to Banksy, there are many more or less well-known street artists whose works also deserve respect and recognition. Some of you have already made the leap from the anarchist, urban subculture to the world of galleries and commissioned works. London is still the epicenter of street art.
The exhibition „Street Art in London“ is intended to give a small insight into the epi-center of London and, at best, also to provide inspiration for „art in public space“ of Wetzlar.
